I don't own any studio lighting gear, but I plan to acquire it some day. In the meantime, I have to use the available resources, such as a window in a bright day, some desk lamps, flashlights and improvised reflectors and diffusers.
I have these very old wine bottles, with way over a century, with the caps sealed with sealing wax, no labels, and a layer of petrified dust near the bottleneck. I have them for decoration only, because through them, I can see that the wine was lost a long time ago. It's useless to open them... what a shame... well, anyway, I decided to make a pseudo studio experiment and with the help of an also very old glass, a couple of seasonal dry leaves and some acorns, I set a still-life composition over a rugged red tablecloth. Inside the glass is real red wine, from another bottle. The light source in the left is a desk lamp with a tungsten bulb, in front of which I placed a matte plastic bag to diffuse the light and soften the shadows. In the opposite side, you can see my reflector mirrored in the bottle. There is also a second light source, a little flashlight hidden behind the bottle and aiming the glass from the back to produce this glowing effect in it and reveal the wine color. It is standing in a blue box that can be seen in the original image when you move your mouse pointer over. I set the proper white balance in the camera and took some photos.
Post-processing the images, and after the usual adjustments of "levels", I realized that the red leaf wasn't standing out from the background because this is also red, so i changed the leaf's color to an orangish tone. I also had to clone out the blue box from behind the bottle. The last step was applying some vignette in the top corners and it was it! That's the closest I got to a studio production! :-)

"Experiência com um Tinto Vintage".
Eu não tenho material de iluminação de estúdio, mas um dia conto adquirir um kit. Entretanto, vou usando os recursos disponíveis, tais como uma janela num dia luminoso, alguns candeeiros de secretária, lanternas, materiais reflectores e difusores improvisados.
Tenho estas duas garrafas de vinho muito antigas, com mais de um século, com as rolhas seladas com lacre, sem rótulos, e com uma camada de pó petrificado pelo tempo junto ao gargalo. Servem exclusivamente para decoração, uma vez que dá para perceber à transparência que o vinho ficou impróprio para consumo há muito tempo. Não vale a pena abri-las... que pena... bom, de qualquer forma decidi montar um pseudo-estúdio e fazer uma experiência e com a ajuda de um copo igualmente muito antigo, um par de folhas secas outonais e algumas bolotas, compuz uma natureza-morta por cima de uma toalha de mesa vermelha enrugada. No copo está vinho tinto vindo de outra garrafa. A fonte de luz à esquerda é um candeeiro de secretária com uma lampada de tungsténio, à frente da qual coloquei um saco de plástico fosco para difundir a luz e suavizar as sombras. No lado oposto, pode ver-se um reflector espelhado na garrafa. Existe também uma segunda fonte de luz, uma pequena lanterna escondida atrás da garrafa e a apontar para o copo para criar este efeito de brilho e revelar a cor do vinho. Está suportanda em cima de uma caixa azul que pode ser vista na imagem original quando se passa o ponteiro do rato por cima da imagem. Escolhi o balanço de brancos adecuado na máquina e tirei algumas fotografias.
Na edição das imagens, e depois dos ajustes normais de "levels", percebi que a folha vermelha não sobressaía em relação ao fundo porque este é igualmente vermelho. Assim, alterei a cor da folha para este alaranjado para a destacar. Apaguei a caixa azul atrás da garrafa e o último passo foi escurecer os cantos superiores. Está feito! Foi o mais parecido possível a uma produção de estúdio! :-)
